In 2022, my husband and I found ourselves in need of a lawyer well versed in Arizona guardianship laws. Our 14-year-old granddaughter and her new son Charlie had lived with us for eight months after his birth before returning to Oklahoma in March. They very quickly became wards of the Oklahoma Department of Health Services and were in separate foster homes. Through several referrals, we engaged Justin Fernstrom. His knowledge of the court system here and dogged persistence in representing us was beyond reassuring. We prevailed seven months later and brought Charlie back to Arizona. In July of 2024, we again engaged Justin to finalize Charlie’s adoption. This child is now safe with us. We will forever be in debt to Justin and his team for all their advice, handholding, and professionalism. We wholeheartedly recommend him and his team for any issues involving child custody and adoption.

Our firm has deep experience navigating Arizona’s dependency system. When reunification fails and parental rights are severed, we help foster parents and relatives move forward with adoption
—offering children permanency and a way out of the system.

We represent families in private adoptions outside of agency placements—often involving

relatives, friends, or prearranged agreements with birth parents. We handle the legal compliance

and ensure a seamless path to finalization.

Adopting a child with emotional, developmental, or educational needs often means navigating overlapping systems—from special education to healthcare and beyond. Our team understands the complexities families face when supporting children with disabilities or trauma histories. We offer informed, compassionate legal guidance to help you secure the services and stability your child deserves.

Grandma and Grandchild in Embrace

We help grandparents assume full legal rights when parents are no longer able to care for their  children, ensuring continuity and stability for the child.

Legal Advice

In some cases, the most loving act a caregiver or family member can take is to seek the termination of parental rights (TPR) to provide a child with safety, stability, and permanency. We represent families in both Arizona and Nevada in TPR matters.
